Also, a storm sewer improvements project in the northwest quadrant of the City of Mason City will begin on Monday, May 12th. On Monday, crews will set up the detour to direct traffic away from the construction area located on 12th Street NW directly west of Federal Avenue. 12th Street will be closed at Federal Avenue, west to and including the intersection of Washington Avenue for approximately three weeks. The detour will remain in place for the duration of the first phase of the project.
Motorists should follow the detour or seek an alternate route. The detour will utilize U.S. 65, IA 122, and Pierce Avenue. Motorists should allow additional travel time if their normal route includes 12th Street NW directly west of Federal Avenue.
The City utility crews will be repairing a broken water valve beginning Monday, May 12. Massachusetts Avenue will be closed to traffic between 15th Street SE and 16th Street SE on Monday and Tuesday, May 12 and 13. This portion of the roadway is anticipated to be reopened by the end of the day Tuesday. Please avoid travel in this area during the repair process.
Water service will be interrupted for residents living on 15th Street SE from Carolina Avenue to Georgia Avenue, and on Massachusetts Avenue from 15th Street SE to 16th Street SE on Tuesday, May 13. Water will be shut off beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday and is anticipated to be restored within 2 or 3 hours.
I see none of you read the story. One is for a vavle replacement and the other is storm sewer repair. None of this work is
street repair.I do agree on the voting issues
@Therealme-Good point. Sorry.
As a matter of fact, I did read the story. My comments were philosophical in nature vs. literal regarding the “detour” mentioned in the story headline.
Max talked roads, Matt talked roads, everyone talked roads….. But nothing was heard about roads or ANYTHING from the incumbents, and they won.
We have sculptures, and that trumps roads, so the voters declared. Oh, by the way, the water that comes out of the faucets might be tainted, and sure tastes odd, but again, we got a Blue Zone to make sure we are lean, fit and healthy, so another moot point.
@Matt-Yep, if push comes to shove we can just drive on the sculptures. That way they will be good for something. Thank God they got rid of Robin’s dice.
The artist took the dice back to MN. They were not sold. Just so everyone knows that. The Globe muddied the waters to make Robin look good. She never sold the dice.
By the way, on the sculptures. I noticed Councilman John Lee proclaimed the sculptures to be a huge success and he was all wrong for opposing the use of taxpayer dollars to get the project started. That is all well and good. That being said, if Mr. Lee were a real leader, a so-called man’s man as he campaigned, he would ask Robin for the $25,000+ back that he gave her. That is the people’s money. She should give back everything the city gave her, and furthermore, she should reimburse the city for staff time and materials spent installing the sculptures. The project is supposedly self-sufficient now; the city has done its part to make that happen. No more handouts for Robin.
@Matt-that is something you should pursue. I thought she would do the right thing and the right political thing and give it back on her own. Should have known better. It is just like taxes to government or toll roads. Once they get their hands on the money it never comes back. I guess it just shows what payoff’s will do.
Robin is too dumb and too greedy to realize that paying the money back would make her practically untouchable politically. She would come out smelling like roses, and probably get any sum in the future she ever asked for. Oh wait, she’ll get that money anyway, so what does she care?
It appears Mason City is on a constant detour watch and has been for some time. Until the next Mayor and Council elections come and DRASTIC changes are made, you can expect nothing more than “bad roads” ahead for the citizens of MC. You had a chance last fall to make some real, positive changes with the way things are done in Mason City, but most of you opted to take the detour instead. Now, you have no one to blame but yourselves for any damages incurred from now on.
@Buzz-I sure agree with you on this. The voters of Mason City showed their stripes last year and sat home on their lazy butts and let the elites have their way with the city again. Now our budget is in bad shape but we continue with all the street works. I have yet to see a street sweeper in our neighborhood this year. Although I have certainly seen them in the elite sections of town.
