NIT – In a fundraising email sent late this week, retiring Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says Iowans are ready to see Terry Branstad out as Governor and usher in the Jack Hatch era.
Harkin touted a poll conducted in April that shows only 17 percent of Iowans believe Branstad is telling the truth about the plethora of scandals that have dogged his last several months in office. The poll also showed that more Iowans distrust Branstad than trust him, yet Branstad held a very slim lead in the poll over Hatch.
“Have you seen the great news?” Harkin asked in the email. “First, Public Policy Polling recently released a poll that found that my friend Jack Hatch is within a couple of points of becoming the next Governor of Iowa. Then, a GOP polling firm released a poll last week showing that the race is within 2 percentage points!
Harkin declared the race for governor in Iowa “a dead heat”.
“Iowans clearly want change, and we need to be there now for Jack to make sure he is the next person leading our state,” Harkin proclaimed.
“Jack is a caring and passionate advocate for Iowans who need a hand up the ladder of opportunity,” Harkin expounded. “And he’s a tenacious fighter when he wants to get things done. That’s a great combination, which will make him a great Governor. Jack Hatch has spearheaded real, sweeping reforms in Iowa – expanding healthcare for children and the working poor, and enacting progressive environmental legislation.”
Yup, Harkin sure is the go-to guy for selecting the next governor. LOL
Harkin is right about one thing, we could use a better governor, but Jack Hatch is not that person. I am still hoping someone I can get behind comes along or else I will have to vote for Branstad as the lessor of two evils. I still remember the last Democratic governor we had and his badly failed administration. We are still digging out of debt because of Culver.
I agree. I don’t see much substance from Hatch.
