Nebraska man sentenced for multiple bank robberies

OMAHA – United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on January 24, 2014, United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Cameron Mitchell, age 53 of Lincoln, to 370 months in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons following his guilty pleas and convictions related to his robbery of seven banks in Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs between June 23, 2012 and August 24, 2012. Mitchell walked into the bank’s lobbies armed with a handgun and then jumped over the counters and into the tellers’ areas, where he took money from the teller drawers and put it into bags he carried with him. Following completion of his sentence, Mitchell will be required to serve five years of supervised release and will also be required to pay $74,179.73 in restitution to the victim banks.

Investigation and prosecution of these cases was coordinated with the cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Omaha Police Department, Council Bluffs Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, and the United States Attorney’s Offices in Nebraska and the Southern District of Iowa.
