MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was free on appeal bond after pleading guilty to a swath of serious offenses is back in jail after violating a no-contact order this weekend.
According to police, Aaron Michael Hermen, age 25, allegedly violated a no-contact order by visiting the protected party’s residence on December 1st. Police applied for an arrest warrant the next day, and Judge Patrick Byrne granted the request.
Hermen turned himself in to the Cerro Gordo County Jail on December 3rd after 7 PM. He is still being held in the jail on $500.00 cash-only bond and awaits a court date on December 10th.
Herman was charged in February of 2013 with the crimes of felony domestic assault, third offense operating while intoxicated, child endangerment and habitual offender driving while barred. He had allegedly assaulted a family member, and then fled the scene, drunk, with his child in the car. He later struck a utility pole. The child was not injured.
Hermen struck a plea deal in July, and the driving while barred charge was tossed by Judge Karen Salic. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the OWI and 2 years in prison for the domestic assault, all to be served concurrently. Hermen, however, appealed and posted bond and was then released.
