MASON CITY – Two new members have joined the Advisory Council of RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of North Central Iowa.

Sue Bruxvoort of Garner is a former teacher at West Hancock Community Schools in Britt and also taught at Robin’s Nest Preschool. She volunteers with RSVP as a Reading Buddy at West Hancock Elementary School and is a Pen Pal to a fourth-grader at West Hancock. Sue has also volunteered as a 4-H leader, with the Hancock County Porkettes and at her church. She and her husband, Larry, both retired, have two daughters and five grandchildren. Sue enjoys country living, yard work, her flower beds, the Iowa State Fair, quilting, camping and her family.

Marilyn Pinta of Manly is director of the Manly Public Library and volunteers with RSVP as a Reading Buddy at Central Springs Elementary School and as a Pen Pal with a Mason City student. Marilyn also volunteers with CASA, Relay for Life, the Humane Society and is involved with church activities. She and her husband, Michael, have two children and four grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, taking motorcycle trips, traveling to new places and reading.

The RSVP Advisory Council provides feedback to program staff in order to help shape the experience and meet the needs of individuals participating in the RSVP program.  Its primary purpose is to monitor and review program development and assessment.  Members study matters related to RSVP, make suggestions concerning the functions of the program, and provide support to the program as it serves volunteers, partner agencies and communities in its four-county service area.

The Council meets quarterly on the NIACC campus.  Members serve three-year terms up to a maximum of three terms.
