LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 25 Iowa State volleyball team found its attacking groove early on and rode that to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-13) victory over Texas Tech Wednesday night at United Spirit Arena. The win improved Iowa State to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders fell to 7-10 and 0-2 in the Big 12.
To the Red Raiders’ credit, Tech hung around for most of the first set, having the set tied at 19-19. However, the Cyclones went on a 4-0 run on the hitting of Mackenzie Bigbee, who had two of the kills on the run to make it 23-19 in the set and eventually leading to the set being closed out at 25-19.
Sophomore Mackenzie Bigbee has made her transition to all six positions look easy Wednesday night. Bigbee continued her outstanding form in the attack with 17 kills at a .333 hitting percentage. What made her stand out was by the far the best defensive performance of her career as the sophomore had her first match with double-figure digs at 14. Bigbee also contributed two block assists.
