Forest City, Iowa – The Luise V. Hanson Library at Waldorf College invites high school students and educators to an overnight poetry camp focusing on writing and performing poetry. The Poetry Out Loud camp, held in collaboration with the Iowa Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, will take place from Friday, June 21 to Saturday, June 22.

“Our library is excited about partnering with the Iowa Arts Council to bring events like this to our region. It’s important to support students in our region who have an interested in the arts,” Library Director Elizabeth Kiscaden said.

This event is ideal for high school students and educators interested in participating in the Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest, a national program intended to build self-confidence and teach students about their literary heritage.

Workshop faculty member Katie Mullaly emphasized the great opportunity the camp presents. “Poetry Out Loud will create a great place for creativity and learning for young writers. They’ll come together to share their unique talents with the camp’s robust faculty.”

The $35 registration fee covers meals, lodging, and all poetry workshops at the camp. The workshop faculty includes Yvette Zarod Hermann, Gwen Morrison, Tegan Swanson, David Rask Behling, and Katie Mullaly. For more information, visit
