LAKOTA, IOWA – Christian Schlaefer officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. In his announcement remarks, Schlaefer emphasized his roots as a farmer and businessman, his passion for Iowa’s communities, and that his campaign will fight to restore the economic and cultural values that make America strong.
“I’m not a career politician. I am just a farmer and workingman with passion for Iowa and the American People,” Schlaefer said. “It’s time we restore small-town America — built by Main Street and the Church — and fight for what it truly means to be an American.”
Schlaefer is a businessman with experience in the financial, pharmaceutical, and software industries. He holds degrees in business and political science. Schlaefer lives in the pioneer spirit of Iowa, raising livestock, building his family’s homestead with his own hands, and leading in his local community as a firefighter and guest preacher. He has fought to preserve American values, advocating for conservative policies and founding a fraternal organization to inspire young professionals across the Midwest.
“For half a century politicians promised; for half a century Iowans inherited hardship. If we wait another fifty years, I fear the fabric of this nation may be unrecognizable,” he said. “That is why I am running – because my generation has lived the cost of failure and our future won’t be won by easy rhetoric, but must come from an unshakable will.”
He has entered politics, he said, after seeing firsthand how Washington’s policy failures were holding Iowans back and its failures on immigration and cultural values meant even Iowa could no longer ignore the crossroads in American identity. His campaign will fight a war on two fronts: restoring the economic basis for strong Iowan communities and promoting a national culture that enables American exceptionalism. Schlaefer said his campaign will work toward the America First principles advanced by President Donald Trump and is driven by Iowa’s values of faith, hard work, and service.
Schlaefer called for an immediate debate in his announcement remarks: “There are five candidates in this race. That’s too many. Rather than wasting time and money of everyday Iowans, I ask that they join me in debate — so the People, not political consultants, decide who can best carry their voice to Washington.”
