Steve King reintroduces bill to “address a nefarious union practice called ‘salting'”

Washington D.C. – Congressman Steve King released the following statement after reintroducing the Truth in Employment Act, H.R. 1746. The bill would address a nefarious union practice called “salting,” in which professional union organizers and agents seek employment at competing non-union companies for the sole purpose of unionizing the company or to drum up frivolous accusations of “unfair labor practices.” Current labor law has been interpreted in a way that does not allow businesses to refuse to employ individuals whose only goal is to damage their company. The Truth in Employment Act would clarify that employers do not have to hire workers who are working on others’ behalf to damage their company.

“Every day, non-union businesses across America are targeted in various ways by Big Labor, and current law makes companies largely powerless to combat these attacks,” said King. “The Truth in Employment Act would help restore the balance of rights between employers, employees, and labor unions by ensuring that employers are not forced to hire individuals who only want to damage their company.

These ‘salting’ activities should not be confused with legitimate union organizing, and companies should not be forced to ‘play dumb’ and hire people working on behalf of their competitors. The Truth in Employment Act will go a long way towards protecting small businesses from sabotage, extortion, and frivolous lawsuits, and it should be enacted immediately as a common-sense clarification to federal labor law.”

@ Carl – You sound like a person who did something wrong, got caught, and now blame the company for your mistake. If you feel that strongly, quit your job, start your own company where you can make all your own rules, and quit crying. Frankly, it’s childlish, boring, getting very old.

🙁 I’m telling my mommy. And I know who you are.

@ carl – Just like the people used to say out at curries about you. To you, you’re a legend in your own mind.

I’m sorry. I lost you at “legend” 🙂

“forced to hire” is the most absurd phrase I have ever heard. I have NEVER heard of ANY business that was “FORCED TO HIRE” ANYONE! If they don’t want someone to start working somewhere, they don’t hire them. Period.

@ here’s – Companies not being forced to hire? I suggest you read the discrimination laws of this country. Before a company does not hire someone, they had better be sure they dot every i and cross every t, or they will be hauled into court and sued.

The way you used the word “or” in your post proves my point.

@Here’s-back in the day there used to be a quota, company’s were pressured into hiring minority’s. They were not forced to but there were certainly incentives to hire and penalty’s if you didn’t meet that quota. Similar to what the colleges went through. It was all B.S. but they did it anyway. It is a great deal with what is wrong with our country today. If people other than minority’s had the same opportunity to go to college there would be a lot more people going. Now that being said, some twit will want to make that part of our welfare program.

@ here’s – I stand by what I said. Read the discrimination laws. There are costly fines for not hiring people if you violate those laws. And yes, the court can order the company to hire the person who brought the suit against them. So your statement of never hearing of a business being forced to hire someone is really an acknowledgment of your ignorance of the hiring/firing practices of this country. Again, read the discrimination laws.

@ Carl Grover – As I stated before. If you feel you were treated unfairly, please post the contents of your situation and let us judge for ourselves.

People begin talking in circles when they have no response for previous statements, much like you have just done.
However, everything I’ve stated is a commonly held belief among many workers throughout the country. The fact you try to make it personal makes me question your motives. If you wish to be ‘societies judge’ perhaps you should remove your cloak of anonymity.Assuming you will not,may the circle be broken.

@Carl Grover – Companies have zero tolerance policies. Their employees know about these policies. There is nothing to hide behind. Follow the rules and there should be no problem. If you think you were treated unfairly, please post the contents of your situation and let us judge for ourselves.

It seems foolhardy to place yourself in judgment of someone who believes in zero tolerance? Just saying.

Then quit and go someplace else to work. Someplace that fits your definition of zero tolerance. If a person is not happy where they are, then they should go somewhere else.

With an attitude such as that why have any labor laws at all? For most, quitting a job is much easier said than done. The “if you don’t like it, quit” argument is a very common managerial threat and a somewhat shortsighted view.

King is a real nightmere from hell. He’s dangerous and never should have been reelected. I though he was a farmer, now someone said he was a contractor.

Maybe Mr. King should focus more on strengthening labor laws so employees were less likely to be victims of vindictive management hiding behind their zero tolerance policies like the spineless cowards they can sometimes be.

@Carl-what’s the matter? Did you get disciplined or fired for something you did?

Why, Heaven’s no. Everyone knows I’m a perfect angel. 🙂

Salting = unneeded public employees at fat cat wages and benefits -Can’t afford them anymore – privatize.

Here’s the real deal.

King ran a construction business for years and made super big bucks by hiring cheap labor, paying sub standard benefits and subcontracting with other robber barrons like himself.

Now he’d like to legitimize the lessons he perfected in his own business practices.

He’s a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Answer the question Sicka, I bet your a black union organizer you sure sound like one.

union worked out real well for surgar plant

This is just another republican trying to keep the working people from making a living wage. Anyone that would say unions have not helped the working people of this country is not being truthful. Look at what has happened to our country as union membership has gone down wages for people are lower benefits are not available and the only ones making money are big shots of companies who get paid inflated salaries and stock options even when the company is not performing well. Its time the working people stand up to this injustice again.

As long as Fox news stays on the air people will continue to vote against their own best interests. It’s sad, but it’s what happens when you pander to the lowest common denominator.

People who don’t watch FOX News don’t know what the truth is. There is a reason they are tops in the ratings.

Fox News is no longer top in the ratings. MSNBC is.

The Republitards keep shooting themselves in the foot, over and over again. The vote against gun background checks was the latest idiot move on their part.

Any facts? I just looked at TV by the numbers and they had a different story.

Lats I heard, which was yesterday, MSNBC was last in the ratings just where it has always been.

… pander to the lowest common denominator… I rest my case.

Maybe Mr. King is just trying to level the playing field between union and business.

He learned how to do that from King Obama.

I think the most repulsive thing about this man is his straight faced lying. I can tolerate a liar if they admit they’re lying, but this guy is just evil.

Tell me what he’s lying about. He’s just trying to pass a law to keep small businesses from being infiltrated by union terrorists.

hahahahahahahahaha! Yes, that’s it! hahahaha!

answer the question. what is he lying about

Katie, you are exactly right.
