Why are elections held in November? I would think Spring would be much more attributable, more fitting if you would. For Spring is the season of renewal, a time of new beginnings, a time when the filth and grime of winter is washed away.
It is also a time when people are more vigorous towards their future, more committed, more determined to change. It is a time of new birth, the freshest of air, windows thrown open to flush out the rancid smells of winter that have been locked in your dwelling since the trees turned bare. Spring is a time of deep breaths, a time to fill your lungs….a time to put away the heavy clothes of winter and refresh all the short sleeve shirts. More importantly it is a time to plant tomatoes, for the mere act of planting this luscious fruit requires forethought….planning for the time when they become ripe, when you can eat them still warm from the sun drenched in olive oil and feta cheese, then married to a leg of lamb swathed in garlic…nirvana.
For me all of this poses a glaring question; if we react to the change of seasons as I have described….and believe me most of us mirror what I have described. If we can plan ahead to that time when the tomatoes are ready to pick….why then can’t we plan ahead to vote? It’s much easier to vote than it is to plant tomatoes.
I could easily equate our current city government to last years garden….burned out; failed to produce, didn’t keep it’s promise. Remember, those in office now are counting on all of you not to vote. Lets hope you disappoint them this time…..for all of us who live here, but mostly for yourself and your family….please vote.
