Sanitary sewer work continues in Mason City starting on Monday

MASON CITY – Sanitary sewer work continues in Mason City starting on Monday, July 9th on South Federal Avenue.

Phase 1 of the 2012 Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project was completed and the westbound lanes of Highway 122 (5th Street NE) between South Federal Avenue and South President Avenue reopened to two-lane traffic on Friday, July 6, 2012.

Phase 2 of the 2012 Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project will begin on Monday, July 9, 2012.

This phase of the project will begin on South Federal Avenue between South 8th and 10th Streets (see photo, looking north, on South Federal Avenue). Both northbound and southbound lanes in this area will be a single lane and restricted to 10’ wide.

No businesses are expected to close during this construction period.

The duration of the restricted single lane traffic (10’ wide) is anticipated to be approximately 2 weeks. The remainder of this phase of the project will remain at single lane traffic for each of the northbound and southbound lanes for approximately 6-8 weeks.

Expect congestion and delays around this area while the street is under construction. Please watch for construction workers and equipment if you are traveling near the work zone. Motorists are urged to avoid traveling in this area and plan an alternate if possible. Staff apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
