The Iowa State University wrestling team won three matches, but came up short in a 28-12 loss to fourth-ranked Cornell in a dual Sunday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
Mikey England gave the 14th-ranked Cyclones (2-12) an early lead with a 6-1 decision over Billy George in the opening bout at 174 pounds.
Heavyweight Matt Gibson posted a 15-2 major decision over Maciej Jochym and senior Andrew Sorenson closed out the dual with a 21-6 technical fall over Marshall Peppelman at 165.
Iowa State wrestled Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday at West Gym in Cedar Falls.

Joe Colon (133), David Bonin (157) and heavyweight Blayne Beale scored the only wins for the Panthers (5-4, 3-1).
Columbus High School graduate Seth Noble, a redshirt freshman for UNI, dropped a 6-5 decision to McCade Ford at 149.
