MASON CITY – The Mason City City Council met on Oct. 5 at NIACC.
Among the highlights of the meeting:
– MCPD Chief Mike Lashbrook was appointed to Youth Task Force
– A housing project at 5th Street NE and N Delaware Avenue accommodating adults with physical disabilities came closer to moving forward
– There was a spirited discussion on ways and methods to control ‘car lots’ in Mason City and where they may locate
– A devlopment agreement between the City of Mason City and YMH-Torrance, Inc. was approved
– Non-budgeted work on an elevator at City Hall was debated at length, some of the costs were questioned
– A building at 318 3rd Street Southwest was the subject of debate. Council members disagreed on how to proceed on demolition of the property. The building in question seems in disrepair and was mentioned as a danger to neighbors. Council debated on who should pay for the demolition, the City or the property owner.
