Eugene “Gene” Eickhoff, 85, of Cabool, Missouri and formerly of Sumner, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at his son Colton’s home in Oelwein, surrounded by loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Hawkeye Community Hall.
Eugene James, son of William and Bertha (Schroeder) Eickhoff was born December 8, 1939, at the family’s home, rural Nashua. He received his early education in a Country School, rural Nashua prior to graduated from Nashua High School. He married Karen Grunwold and to this union two children were born, Shelly and Aaron. Karen’s death occurred a few years later. On December 3, 1966, Gene was united in marriage with Peggy Westpfahl in Mabel, Minnesota. Gene was a farmer, owner and operator of a bar in Hawkeye, and later worked as a contractor in the construction business, owning and operating GPE Construction for many years. Gene served on the Hawkeye Volunteer Fire Department and was a long time member of Pheasants Forever. He also was the lead singer of his band, Gene Eickhoff and Sound Inc. Gene enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Gene is survived by his children, Shelly Kingsley of West Union, Aaron Eickhoff, Jeremy (Hilliary) Eickhoff of Hawkeye, Cody Eickhoff of Cedar Rapids, and Colton (Jen) Eickhoff of Oelwein; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and his wife, Keith (Marilyn) Westpfahl of Fairbank; sister-in-law, Judy Treloar of Waucoma; niece, Mika Brooks of Ava, Missouri, and close friends, Jodi, Kurt and Ken Van Gelder and Sarah Pieschke.
In addition to his parents, and first wife, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mildred and Oliver Westpfahl; daughter-in-law, Nichole Eickhoff; siblings, Ruth, Bill, Carl, Dorothy, Bobby, and Crystal; and brother-in-law, Oliver “Junior” Westpfahl.
