POMEROY, IOWA – After at least two persons were shot in a remote Iowa apartment, police investigated the incident and announced they have a young man in custody, charged with a swath of serious crimes.
Earlier, NIT reported that on New Year’s eve, persons inside a remote Iowa apartment drew weapons, pointed and fired upon one another, and the bullets inflicted wounds that required hospitalization. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigated and say they have filed criminal charges against a suspect in connection with the December 31, 2024, shooting incident in Pomeroy, Iowa.
Nicholas L. Benedict (pictured at top), age 22, was booked into the Carroll County Jail on the following charges:
– Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury (class “C” felony)
– Reckless Use of a Firearm Resulting in Serious Injury (class “C” felony)
– Going Armed with intent (class “D” felony)
– Assault While Displaying a Dangerous (aggravated misdemeanor)
– Obstruction of Prosecution (aggravated misdemeanor)
Benedict is being held on a $29,000 cash bond. Two people remain hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Both are expected to survive their injuries.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and DCI’s investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
