Danny O’Donnell, 83, of Thornton, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Thornton. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Woodley Funeral Home of Thornton is caring for Danny and his family.
Daniel Martin O’Donnell was born September 21, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, the third child of Thomas and Dorothy (Liggins) O’Donnell. He attended school in Des Moines.
On September 8, 1969, Danny was united in marriage with Dorothy Thompson in Des Moines. They were blessed with four children. Danny worked as a sales rep for a concrete company in Texas, as well as a welder for Keifer Built Trailers, then as a welder until retirement at Sukup Manufacturing in Sheffield. He also enjoyed his time raising hogs for Bruce Anderson.
Danny loved to hunt and fish and take camping trips with his family. He enjoyed watching car races and loved to dance, even trying out a new dance step in the last few weeks as his family was helping him to his bed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; children: Danny Jr. (Rebecca) O’Donnell, Clear Lake; Shawn (Angela) O’Donnell, Thornton; Jake O’Donnell, Thornton; Shelly (Ryan) Boeckholt, Mason City; and his beloved Yorki, Gidget; grandchildren: Hunter (Aydan) O’Donnell; Cody O’Donnell; Justin O’Donnell; Braden (Stephanie) Dunham; Isaiah, Elijah, Tommy and Sarah; great-grandchildren: Stetson O’Donnell, Hazylmae Dunham and Connor; siblings: Linda Deeds; Dorothy Jean Sherwood; James O’Donnell; as well as many friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dorothy O’Donnell; brothers: Tommy, Mike, Joe and sisters: Judy (Sis) Allen and Gretchen Cerrato.
