Lois I. Sellon, 98, of Nora Springs, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday March 25, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at First United Methodist Church.

Lois I. Sellon, 98, of Nora Springs, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday March 25, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 119 S Georgia Ave, Mason City, IA 50401.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lois was born on June 30, 1925 in rural Mitchell county, the only child of Elmer and Katie (Kling) Apel. Lois began her schooling at the country school near her home until she was in the 6th Grade. She then began attending the Rudd School until she moved to the Nora Springs High School, where she met her soon-to-be-husband Eugene. Once Lois graduated from high school, she attended Coe College with a major in music for two years before transferring to Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) to complete her degree.

Following his service in the military Lois and Eugene were united in marriage on September 1, 1946, from this union three children were born; Tom, Steven, and Terri. They made their home on the farm in Nora Springs where Eugene would work with the crops, pigs and cows while Lois took care of the children, the home and worked as a piano teacher. Lois would also be a 4-H Leader for her daughter.

Lois had a passion for music but especially instrumental music and the organ, she would often go to The Surf when she was young. Although Lois also had a passion for many other hobbies such as bowling, snow birding in Texas, walking her dog and cats, baking and golfing. She had even won a Hole-In-One Trophy! She was also a big animal lover, one of her beloved pets was her childhood dog who would climb trees!

In 1989 Lois and Eugene retired together and soon made the move to Mason City in 1993 to be closer to their grandchildren, Matthew and Erin. She loved time with her grandchildren from sitting on the back porch together to making sure they were always fed with the never empty cookie jar.

Those left to cherish Lois’ memory are her children Tom Sellon and Terri (Jim) Patchen; grandchildren Matthew (Lindsey) and Erin; great grandchildren Finley and Merrick; brother-in-law Duane (Ruth) Sellon; nieces Denise, Teresa, Gloria and Julie; and nephews Tony and Nathan.

Those preceding Lois in death are her husband Eugene Sellon; son Steven Sellon; parents Elmer and Katie; and daughter-in-law Mary Sellon; parents-in-law Wayne and Hazel Sellon; sister-in-law Glenafa (Les) Vrchota; brother-in-law Keith (Shirley) Sellon; and nephew Gary.
