Caecilia “Lia” Ebert, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on March 27, 1925, in Leipzig, Germany, Lia grew up during a challenging period in history, experiencing the hardships of World War II. Despite the difficulties, she remained resilient and dedicated her life to helping others.

Lia was known for her outgoing and friendly personality. She had a reputation for speaking her mind, regardless of political correctness, always choosing honesty over pretense. She had a compassionate heart and a strong desire to comfort those who were overlooked by others. Lia was always ready to lend a helping hand and make a positive difference in people’s lives.

During her early years in Germany, Lia and her mother worked on a farm, receiving meager pay but essential food supplies. The war brought immense challenges, and Lia’s family, like many others, struggled to put food on the table. Despite the scarcity of resources, Lia’s determination and resilience shone through.

Throughout her life, Lia dedicated herself to the well-being of others, leaving little time for personal hobbies. However, she found joy in mowing the lawn, a task that brought her a sense of satisfaction. In fact, she enjoyed it so much the family would often offer to remove the mower blade and let her run around the yard with it in the winter when there was no grass to mow, just to keep her happy. Additionally, during the summer months, Lia delighted in making pies from the apples harvested from her trees, generously sharing them with her neighbors.

Lia’s impact on the lives of those who knew her was immeasurable. Her positive outlook, kindness, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression. She was a pillar of strength and a source of comfort for many. Lia’s legacy will continue to inspire and remind us of the importance of compassion and selflessness.

Lia is survived by her loving sons, Lynn and Alan, her caring daughter-in-laws, Mary and Chalarin, and her cherished grandchildren, Lori, Eric and Nick. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alois, who was called into service during World War II and never returned, both her sisters, Margot and Erika, her first son, Dave, in 2014, and husband, Willie, also in 2014.

A small family service, accompanied by a few close friends, will be held on January 17, 2024. Visitation will take place from 1-2 PM, followed by a short service at 2 PM. Lia will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery at 2:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to military veteran charities, a cause that Lia passionately supported.

Shortly before her passing, while laying on her back sound asleep, she reached out with both arms and said, “Don’t be afraid Angel, . . . . I’m here”.

Lia’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her unwavering kindness, strength, and dedication to helping others will continue to inspire generations to come. May she rest in peace, knowing that she made a profound impact on the world around her.
