
CEDAR RAPIDS – A drive-by shooter targeted an Iowa police officer’s house late Friday night, sending cops on high alert in a search for the perpetrator.
On Friday, April 8, 2022, at 11:27 PM, the Joint Communications Agency in Cedar Rapids received multiple calls for shots-fired in the Cherry Hill neighborhood. Investigating officers found evidence of a targeted shooting toward an off-duty Cedar Rapids Police Officer. Multiple shots were fired and bullets struck the officer’s home, garage and authorized take-home squad car. No injuries were reported.
Chief of Police Wayne Jerman views this intentional violent act as an extremely serious incident. The Department is actively working to find those responsible for this violent behavior and hold them accountable. “Evidence points to this being a targeted shooting toward a sworn peace officer. It was deliberate. It was an act of intimidation and violence and we will not tolerate it. We pursue all shots-fired incidents as serious, senseless actions and as such, receive our complete attention through the full legal process.” He added, “This is the time for anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward and help ensure this violence stops now.”
