Office building being torn down

MASON CITY – An office building is being torn down on Mason City’s northwest side.

At the site, located at 810 12th Street NW, the northwest corner of the building has been torn down.  Piles of debris are scattered about as the wind whips through the building, strewing exposed insulation, dust, and pieces of wood about the area.  A lone backhoe rests inside the building’s skeleton.

The property has been overgrown with weeds and debris for years.  A call to a phone number on a sign on the front of the property has been assigned to a new business in town; that business owner had no information on the office building.

The building is owned by PEACOCK RICHARD D & AMERISEARCH INC, out of Wilmington, North Carolina.  Calls to their offices went unanswered.

City Hall said Thursday that the City had moved to have the building demolished and that Navrtil Construction won the bid for the job.  According to the Building Services Department, demolition was authorized to begin on July 25th and Navratil has 60 days to complete the job.

A real eyesore. so glad to see it come down. very nice looking railroad building just to the East of it.
Now we need to get those ugly rat infested pigeon coops on North Federal taken down. Matt can you look into those buildings-dogs, b& o drug. They are horrible. absolutely disgusting. another one that is an eyesore is on the 5 way stop at State Street. State street is so nice but that building looks terrible.

To Whomever decided to tear this eyesore of a building down… THANK YOU!

i heard the UP railroad has this and hopefully they put up a nice building for their sleeping quarters for the rail crew.

It was falling down anyway. It is good that they are getting rid of it. However, they could contain the mess so the people in the neighborhood don’t have to clean it up.

I don’t live on the end of town any more but was there a hair salon in that building recently?

Union Pacific Railroad now owns this property.

Not acording to the public record they don’t.

Trust me on this one. It will soon be a parking lot.

Hasn’t been maintained & an eyesore for years!
