IOWA CITY – Former Mason City Mohawk Miguel Recinos is listed as the Iowa Hawkeyes’ starting kicker.
According to Hawk Central, Recinos, a junior, has been locked in a battle for the starting job with last year’s starter, sophomore Keith Duncan.
Recinos is taller, bulkier and a year older than Duncan. But, last November, a last-second field goal by Duncan helped propel Iowa over the undefeated Michigan Wolverines, 14-13, at Kinnick Stadium on national TV.
Recinos redshirted in 2014 after joining the team as a walk-on. In 2016, he kicked a 47-yeard field goal against Wisconsin.
Iowa opens the season Saturday at home in Kinnick Stadium against Wyoming.
