SPIRIT LAKE, IOWA – Two people were stabbed by a man in Spirit Lake this week, leading to his arrest.
On Thursday, June 22nd, 2017, at approximately 5:00pm, Spirit Lake Officers were called to the 900 block of 22nd Street in Spirit Lake for a report of a subject that had been stabbed. Upon arrival and after a short foot pursuit, 29-year-old Nicholas Thompson of Spirit Lake was placed under arrest.
Thompson was charged with:
– Attempted Murder – Class B Felony
– Going Armed with Intent – Class D Felony
– Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon – An Aggravated Misdemeanor
Thompson was booked into the Dickinson County Jail.
There were two injured parties as a result of this incident, the names of which are not being released at this time. One injured party denied medical treatment and an additional injured party was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare and later airlifted to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Officers were assisted on scene by Lakes Regional Ambulance, Spirit Lake First Responders, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Okoboji Police Dept, Arnolds Park Police Dept, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, and the Dickinson County Attorney’s Office.
It should be noted that a criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
