Charles City man with deferred judgement for domestic assault arrested for new crime

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man who was given a lenient deferred judgement for a domestic assault he committed last year couldn’t resist the temptation to allegedly commit the same crime yet again.

Charles City police were called to the 600 block of 3rd Avenue on the afternoon of February 8, 2017 to investigate a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to that location around 1:14 PM and encountered 27-year-old Alan Campbell of Charles City. After an investigation, Campbell was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault and taken to jail.

The next day, a judge imposed a no-contact order on Campbell, and he was released from jail. He now awaits a March 1 court hearing.

Police have dealt with Campbell before. In a previous incident on May 6, 2016, Charles City police officers responded to a domestic incident again at the 600 block of Third Avenue. A suspect – Campbell – had left the scene by the time the officers arrived, however, he was soon located in the 1800 block of Rolfing Street. Campbell was arrested there for first-offense domestic abuse assault, a simple misdemeanor. In June of 2016, Campbell was granted a deferred judgement in this case and put on “self-probation” for 6 months not to exceed a year.
