Op-ed: Globe spewing more crap today about former council (by Peter Children)

May 12th, 2013

Mark this day on your calendar, it has begun. The Globe has started mixing the Kool-Aid and along with it the launching of subliminal processing across our voting area.

In today’s Sunday paper on page A13 you will find the beginnings of pure propaganda…..an attempt to discourage you from returning to what might have been one of the best Councils this city ever assembled. Of course this council had an altogether different agenda then than today’ colluding conspirators. Bookmeyer had won and with came an unimaginable beginning of darkness that fell over this small farm community with poll buildings in the city core.

I.C. Systems was proven far from being “User friendly” by it’s work staff, in fact it had more complaints filed against it at the Human Rights office than any other firm in our community. And those at the helm of this ship of horrors just happened to have shepherded the absolute worst mayor to have ever taken that office since we forced the Indians from this land. Now the local paper would have you think it was Nelson, Marsters and Weaver who are at fault for everything that happened here since the Civil War. Come on….you’re far too smart for that. Now I will break this down for you so you know from the git-go just what is really behind this yellow journalism. It is about this coming November and the election for expiring council seats. While chances are good that Don Nelson has had his fill of municipal government, that same thing might not be true of Jeff Marsters who along with his then-colleagues Nelson and Weaver were responsible for saving this city thousands in “good old boy” expenditures. Look at the failed business proposal that is costing you the tax payer thousands each year. Remember Marsters, Nelson and Weaver walked out in order to prevent this measure from passing. After they left that table and the new council was seated, one of the first items was to bring back this bad dream. For your information it has been proven a colossal failure……but the city still kicks in big bucks for candy bars and sidewalks. Today I’d say Jeff is a dark horse.

But Jeff isn’t the real target here, the real target is Weaver; these people are worried sick he’ll regain a seat at the table. If the Globe has to include Jeff and Don in this conspiracy to get Max, then it is what it is. Personally I think this Fall will present an interesting slate of candidates for council seats. Take this city back, vote, get all your relatives and neighbors to vote….if you have friends, then implore them to vote as well. Don’t let a newspaper decide anything for you…..there isn’t one person working under that roof that knows any more than you do. And never fall for that crap!

Peter did you ever write a op-ed in the Globe about Max? This would have been about 10-15 years ago? I heard it wasn’t very flattering toward Max. This can’t be true, can it?

@Reggie-what is wrong with Peter writing about Max? Max was a public figure, a advocate for the working man and basically pretty honest. A lot of good things about Max.

LVS :disturbingly what I have been told is that some of the op-eds were borderline libelous and very derogatory toward Mr Weaver. If this is true, and this is only what I have been told, what has brought about the 180 degree turnabout in Peter’s opinion about Max. Did Max change or did Peter?

There’s only one person who could come close to beating Bookie in the fall….and that is Matt Marquardt.

From this and other articles carried on NIT I am beginning to wonder if there is some sort of smear campaign forming.
Under a previous post on another article was the assertion that IC Systems president has somehow funded the Mayor’s campaign for election. Now under this article I see pretty much the same thing along with assertion that IC had generated more complaints the MCHRC than anyone. How about some specifics – how much money was involved in IC Systems support (& at what amount is it illegal); as to MCHRC complaints – how many were filed, what were these complaints about and what was their resolution?
Finally, Peter says the real target is Max Weaver and that “people” are worried sick he may run again and get elected. Wasn’t Max defeated this last go around fair & square? If he wasn’t where is the proof?

I am almost 100% sure Jeff Marsters won’t run for Council again. He doesn’t live in Mason City any more.

@anonymous-You are correct. I talked to Jeff a short while ago and he has no interest in running for any public office again.

That is too bad, Jeff was the quintessential council person who coupled with Nelson and Weaver became the best line of defense this city ever had. What is sitting there now could be illegal and without question pathetic. If those living here now….who are qualified voters have not learned a hard lesson by not voting….well all hope is lost. Just look at the last presidential election; when the republican governor led states started fooling with requirement rules….it resulted in the largest black turnout in history. Why can’t we react the same way here? Put away the six-pack, shut off the game and go vote.

@Peter-they didn’t get turned in to Human Rights all those times because they were good to their workers.

Will your name be on the ballot this fall as a candidate?

I had to laugh when I read the globes opinion on this council being business friendly. My question is what good has it done for the city. We are not getting good business relocating here all we get is retail and that is not going to help the community grow. But it will lead to low paying jobs and the need for more law enforcement professionals.

Bring back the clowns and set up pay per view on the comedy channel. Mason City will be rolling in dough.

@Nicole…so you actually think the council is doing a good job??? If so, you are in the minority my dear.

@NB now that’s funny!!!

I love it, bring back the clowns. They truly were a joke played on this city. good riddance.

He Peter, give up on I.C. System. your propaganda is all wrong, they packed up and left because of hostile environement in town and Max, Don and Jeff pissed them off.

Black eye on the city that never should have happened. Chasing away jobs. A shame.

First things first; they were bad jobs with a hostile working enviroment. That is why they couldn’t meet the quota required by the aggreement. My neighbor’s girl worked there and quit, couldn’t take the stress everyday.

Next a aggreement is an agreement, if you don’t believe that ask a banker.

The former manager got fired….then re-hired I heard in anothr position

Nope, your bias doesn’t fly with me. Don’t know why you have an axe to grind. Did they call you to collect bills you didn’t pay voluntarily or what?

I know lots of people that worked there. I.C. was not a bad place at all, they tell me. Ordinary people earned nice bonuses, paid vacations, 401k, health insurance. Sounds pretty good to me. I knew that manager you have been trashing because my kids knew his kids from school and he coached two of my kids in youth soccer. He was a good guy, active member of his church, kids all went to school in town. He didn’t get fired, he resigned to do something different. He was heavily recruited and left town to join another firm. He was a big supporter of Mason City and when he left, so did the support that kept the office open. The office closed a year later. think it’s a coincidence? I have it on good authority, he kept the office open for years. You don’t know squat about it, plain and simple.

It’s approaching election time & the GLOB just getting in the middle of politics… As Usual, they should keep out of it!

Anything Silly Me writes has the same smell as my shorts after taco night. Thanks to Don Jeff and Max there was some honor with our city government.

SAD

I never believe what the GLOB says. I know Don, Max and Jeff pretty darn well and I don’t know of more honorable men who had nothing but the best interest for the taxpayers of Mason City. Everything they tried to do was to protect the common working people of our city. For the GLOB to slander their names in such a manner in inexcusable. This was just one more reason to distrust the “elite” of this town.

…”..an attempt to discourage you from returning to what might have been one of the best Councils this city ever assembled.” WOW Peter thinks one of the beat councils ever had Scott, Travis and Janet on it?
One ting I do agree with Peter on is don’t let the globe OR this site sway you. Look at the issues, meet the candidates and make up your own mind, then vote.

We’d like to cancel but the Globe doesn’t ban us from commenting like NIT does.

The Globe might not ban you but they do censor what they put on their website and the letters to the editor. When Pam Myhre was removed from her position as lead for the city in the CES fiasco, I wrote a letter to the editor asking why the Globe didn’t cover the removal’, why they didn’t ask Pam how she felt about her removal from her position and why there was nothing said about Mr. Trout’s admonishment to her about speaking to Max Weaver. When my letter didn’t appear in the Globe, I wrote again expressing my frustration. I wanted at least another side from the NIT story, and I received again nothing from them. That is censorship.

Seriously-the GLOB may not ban you (but they have banned people before) but they will certainly censor you if you try to post a letter on a subject they disagree with. Censor and ban amounts to the same thing. At least NIT will just blank out the words you shouldn’t have used anyway and warn you about it. The GLOB just ignores you and doesn’t post what you sent in.

NIT can and does ban user names it does not like. I know several people personally who’ve been banned here. Yes, it is certainly their prerogative and not arguing that, only that it does happen.

@LBS-really? name one or was it possibly you?

another load of shit from seriously?

If you have been banned then how did you leave a comment??
