Swaledale man accused of drug possession and destruction of county property

MASON CITY – A Swaledale man is facing another drug possession charge and destruction of county property.

Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 40-year-old Joseph Eugene Scarcello was arrested at his house in Swaledale by Cerro Gordo county deputies, in connection to a charge of third or subsequent offense possession of marijuana. He was taken to the county jail and held on bond as he awaits a September 30 hearing. Then, allegedly he committed some kind of criminal mischief or act of vandalism. He was charged with criminal mischief after damaging county property on the afternoon of September 22. Damage was undisclosed, but could cost up to $500.00 to repair. He’ll await a court date on that charge.

Already earlier this year, Scarcello was found guilty of third or subsequent offense possession of marijuana and put on probation for two years. He was given 363 days of suspended jail time as well.

Back in 2012, Scarcello was accused in Cerro Gordo county of felony domestic abuse involving strangulation.  He was able to plead that down to second offense domestic abuse and was sent to Beje Clark halfway house.  He violated his probation and was sent to prison in 2013 before being released months later.
