CHARLES CITY – Today, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors handed off a $125,000 check for the Floyd County Youth Enrichment Center.

In 2014 the Charles City FFA was the beneficiary of a monetary gift from Gil and Donna White. It was their vision to construct a facility at the Floyd County Fair Grounds that would benefit all FFA and non-livestock exhibitors during the fair. The Floyd County Fair Board then agreed to take the project a step further and build upon the gift from Gil and Donna to create a fully functional year-round facility that will benefit all the youth of Floyd County.

The Floyd County Youth Enrichment Center will become a place to host county wide educational events, workshops, weddings, commercial exhibits, and seminars. The multi-purpose facility will be funded entirely through private donations and grants.

“Our ability to raise additional funds will determine the size and scope of the final project,” according to steering committee member Amy Staudt. The goal of the committee is to have funds pledged and construction begin by August of 2015 and be fully functional by Fair of 2016. Fair Board Member Craig Anderson said “This will be a top-notch facility that will serve as a hub for the Floyd County Fair.” Charles City FFA member Hanna Bjelica said, “This will be a great opportunity for the youth of Floyd County. I am excited to be a part of the planning and building process. I firmly believe in our mission statement which is to educate, inspire, and motivate youth to grow, succeed, and lead the nation.”

Donations of cash, grain, or supplies are tax deductible and can be made by contacting Chuck Staudt at 641-330-3898 or cstaudt@pkmidwest.com.

Earlier this year, State Bank donated $25,000 to the Floyd County Youth Enrichment Center, and the First Security Foundation will be donating a total of $50,000 over the course of five years. Also, First Citizens National Bank gave the first of 3 donations totaling $50,000.  Fundraising has been underway for over a year.
