MASON CITY – The United States of America Department of Transportation Office in Washington, D.C. has announced they have selected SkyWest Airlines to provide Essential Air Service to Mason City for a three-year period beginning March 1, 2021.

On August 6th, the US Department of Transportation released Docket Order 2020-8-3 requesting proposals to provide airline service for Mason City and Fort Dodge. Four air carriers responded to the DOT request, Air Choice One, SkyWest Airlines, Boutique Air, and Denver Air. Air Choice One has served Mason City since being selected in 2014.

The Airport Commission of Mason City voted unanimously to recommend SkyWest Airlines at their October 12th Commission meeting.

SkyWest is proposing 12 round trips between Mason City and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The carrier proposes to use 50 seat Bombardier CRJ-200 Regional Jets to service our community, returning jet airline service to Mason City for the first time since Delta airlines in 2012. SkyWest will operate flights as a United Express carrier, allowing seamless ticketing and baggage on United Airlines worldwide network of flights.
