Michael Handt, age 59 formerly of Charles City but most recently living in a hotel an Mason City’s south side, was sentenced today to two years in a state prison by judge Annette Boehlje on a charge of third or subsequent offense public intoxication. He must also submit a DNA sample and pay $2,100.00 in court fees and costs (a fine was suspended).

Most recently in Mason City, Handt was picked up by police in October at the 2800 block of South Federal Avenue. Officers charged him with enhanced public intoxication and he was jailed.
Handt was arrested by Charles City police on the evening of July 15, 2015, after they were called to the 500 block of 7th Avenue. He was charged with harassment in connection to a no-contact order. He later pled guilty an served jail time. Handt was also wanted for failing to show up in court earlier that day in connection to a public intoxication charge. On the evening of July 7, Handt was discovered passed out by police in the intersection of South Joslin and Court Streets and taken to jail. Handt has been arrested for public intoxication at least three other times this year. On the afternoon of June 21, Charles City police discovered Handt laying in the grass at the 500 block of 7th Avenue, and he was taken to jail. He was charged with the same crime on June 13 and April 17 of this year.
Mason City police arrested Handt in 2011 after he was found passed out in Kmart’s entrance.
Handt is a multi-convicted drunk driver, resulting in a felony in 2006, in which he lost his driver’s license for 6 years.

amen amen and only take those that want to be rehab not the ones that are doing it to stay out of jail. You can look at the ones who dont give a rats ass about the law by how many times they break their probation or by the times they fail urine tests. It could be so simple a monkey could figure it out.
They need rehab “jails” instead of prison.
what about the mikeal anderson, tim Lumley, jime stircker, mcdaid they all have numerous drunken charges and not many days in jail and time to pay the piper.
