Nora Springs man who caused head injury to toddler sent to prison

CHARLES CITY, IOWA – After a jury found a Nora Springs man guilty of inflicting a head injury upon a toddler, a judge sent him to prison for up to 10 years.

Tylan James Debeir, age 24 of Nora Springs, was accused of injuring his girlfriend’s toddler as he was caring for the child back in March of 2013. It was determined after the child was hospitalized that he had deliberately caused a head injury to the boy, and he was charged with felony child endangerment.

After years of legal maneuvering, Debeir was finally found guilty by a Floyd county jury in December of 2015. He requested a new trial and was denied. At sentencing last week, judge Christopher Foy sentenced Debeir to 10 years in prison with a suspended $1,000 fine. He was ordered to pay $3061.00 in court fees and costs, however. Iowa corrections does allow parole, so Debeir may not serve the entire 10 years.
