Law enforcement warns of construction scam

scam-alertMASON CITY – Law enforcement is warning citizens of a possible scam involving men in a pickup truck doing sub-standard work on asphalt projects.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office said Wednesday that they received a report today from a citizen living on South Shore Drive in Clear Lake that three males came to their residence unannounced wanting to do asphalt work on their driveway. The resident declined the offer and left the area in a white 2-door Ford Superduty truck. Deputies responded to the area but were unable to locate the vehicle and individuals.

Later, the sheriff’s office received information from the Kossuth county sheriff’s office advising that individuals matching the description of the subjects from the South shore Drive incident had scammed a Kossuth County resident by preforming substandard asphalt work and yet charged the resident several thousand dollars.

Law enforcement is asking for assistance from the public in locating these individuals who “appear to be preying on citizens in the rural areas of North Iowa.”
