Rake woman guilty of theft, sent to jail and fined

MASON CITY – A North Iowa woman was sentenced to jail after she was caught stealing at Wal-Mart.

Police were dispatched to the Wal-Mart Super Center, located at 4151 4th Street SW, on January 30, 2015 after loss prevention reported they had located a suspected shoplifter. Police arrived and arrested 55-year-old Peggy Sue Oconnell of Rake, Iowa on a charge of theft in the third degree.

Oconnell pled guilty to that charge on May 5. She was sentenced to a year in jail with 351 days suspended. She was also placed on probation for a year, ordered to submit a DNA sample and to pay $1,068.75 in fines and court costs. 

Oconnell has at least three prior theft convictions, all out of Black Hawk county.
