Ted Cruz slams Obama deal with Cuba

WASHINGTON – President Obama today announced a historic deal with Cuba to strengthen ties and end five decades of animosity between the two Cold War adversaries.  But right-wing Texas Senator Ted Cruz hates the deal almost as much as he hates Obamacare. Here’s his take:

We rejoice that Alan Gross’ wrongful imprisonment by the brutal Castro regime has finally come to an end, and that he will be able to spend the holidays with his loved ones. But make no mistake, although we are glad Alan is now free, the agreement the Obama Administration has entered into with the Castro regime has done nothing to resolve the underlying problem. Indeed, it has made it worse.

Fidel and Raul Castro have just received both international legitimacy and a badly-needed economic lifeline from President Obama. But they remain in control of a totalitarian police state modeled on their old state sponsor, the Soviet Union. Their government can continue to detain individuals like Alan Gross indefinitely without process—as the many political prisoners still languishing in the Castros’ prisons can attest. They retain their close, long-standing ties with hostile nations, notably Russia, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela. They will continue their support for terrorist organizations from FARC to Hezbollah and Hamas.

The President spoke today about a new era for relations between American and the Cuban people, but these circumstances do not bode well for either. We have seen how previous Obama administration attempts at rapprochement with rogue regimes like Russia and Iran have worked out, with our influence diminished and our enemies emboldened. Now they are revisiting this same disastrous policy with the Castros, blind to the fact that they are being played by brutal dictators whose only goal is maintaining power. And if history be our guide, the Castros will exploit that power to undermine America and oppress the Cuban people. First Russia, then Iran, now Cuba – this is one more very, very bad deal brokered by the Obama Administration.

@LVS, the two party system is a ruse. They go in the back room, divide the issues, feed the media talking points, and “we the people” are left in the dark.

6 years of gridlock is exactly what the voters sent the elected to do. The Democrats and the media has convinced the people that grid-lock is terrible. I don’t buy into it.

Without the grid-lock this country would be in worse shape than it is.

I’m done just being an independent. I am going third party only. What we have now…

The T-Party is the closest ideology that I can see that would restore America and the American Dream. The problem is they too have been infiltrated by Republicrats and vilified unjustly so I don’t see them becoming a force.

What we have now is BS!

@watchdog-I don’t disagree at all. As a matter of fact I agree with your comments. I just don’t know how to change it. As I said, voting for a 3rd party is the same as not voting at all other than it may give you some personal satisfaction. The two party’s control our politics and it will be damn hard to over come that. I look at it as voting for the lessor of two evils when I decide who to vote for. Even the ones that are good become disfunctional once they get to Washington.

After the last spending bill giveaway, I am hoping a 3rd party rises. If Ted Cruz goes third party he will get my vote. He is mainstream not far right.

Far right to me is the current establishment that caters to the rich. Republicrats would best describe the far right/leftwing. It’s all hocus-pocus.

This country is currently going to through a dark time. The way the compromise is going today we have nothing.

@watchdog-the two main party’s have been at war for the last six years and in my opinion it is why nothing has been accomplished. I believe that Cruz is to hard line with no give at all to him. As a third party candidate he is going nowhere. A vote for a third part is just like not voting at all. It might make you feel good but will accomplish nothing except possibly be a spoiler for someone. That is all Rand Paul brings to the table too. And I like some of what he says.

Cruz couldn’t run for president anyway.

@maybe-why not? Obama did and he is not a citizen.

I am not saying he is or isn’t but you have to admit there is some evidence that says he isn’t. Plus why spend millions keeping his records sealed.

@Matt-what do you mean more truthfully. I really believe what I posted and I am not the only one. Obama’s records are sealed along with his college records. Why is that. Are you going to weigh in on our discussions now?

LVS, you have got to be kidding. Do you really think President Obama would have been elected if he were not a U.S. citizen? We have all seen his birth certificate, which is genuine. He was born in Hawaii. Apparently you haven’t heard that Hawaii is part of the U.S.

Thank you, Matt. I, for one, really appreciate your comment.

The haters on here are the most uninformed people I’ve ever come across. They should try switching the channel to something other than Fox News.

Dozens of experts say his birth certificate and social security number and selective service cards are all faked. As a liberal you would say they are all lying BUT what if they are right?

Hooray for Matt. This argument has been around since the President was elected the first time and NO ONE has any proof that the president is not a citizen. You would think, after this long, if there was any truth to it, we would know.

right, absolutely no chance of a coverup because that only happens to republicans.

Coverups are everywhere, however, this isn’t one.

@JMO-If you (and Matt) want to drink that Kool Aid it is up to you. I have a right to believe what I want and Maybe is correct. There are lots of experts that disagree with you. Just because you love the great God Obama doesn’t mean I have to believe his lies. He has been known to lie and lie and lie and lie. What makes you think he isn’t lying again. After all, the American voters are to stupid to understand. I predict that after he leaves office the truth will come out and they will go away…

@bodacious-You must really love it having someone side with you after being wrong so many times, even if you are still wrong and you are. Only you three think he is legal. The rest of us know better. Just because Matt owns the site does not mean he can’t be wrong.

My first thought after reading matts post was that he was going to curtail our opinions because they don’t match his own but I know he is a bigger man than that. He has his right of opinion as does everybody else. The facts that I have seen says he is wrong but there are experts out there that says he is right. I know in time we will all find out the truth and if I am wrong I will admit it, but I don’t think I am.

I have always backed you up matt because you believed in the 1st amendment and unless it was an outright attack you let it go but from the last posting it looks like you are getting very close to denying us our 1st amendment rights. Either obama was elected legally or illegally, like I said soon we will all find out but I wasn’t too happy with your last posting. Like it or not thats your perogative but don’t deny me my right to question it. If you ban me from here then I guess I will go.

@Matt-You always say that but then the next day the attack artist come out and you ignore them so it starts all over again. What you are really talking about is censorship because you disagree with some of the comments. That is your right as owner but that is not the way the site has been run up til now. If you want to do this it is fine with me but that means you should do it with everyone, not just the people you disagree with.

You’re delusional to think Ted Cruz is anything but a puppet to the Koch Brothers and everyone else within the Republican pecking order. These guys put on an independent tea party face, but behind the scenes they do exactly as they’re told. Wake up.

I am not really a Cruz fan. It seems like he stirs things up even when he knows he can’t win. He is way to far right for me. Government is all about negotiation and compromise. If you can’t do that you become disfunctional. Now, that being said, when he is having to deal with Harry Reid every day and not being allowed to debate or vote on the issues I can certainly see where he would get frustrated. The good politicians know when to fight and when to wait for a better day.

Ted Cruz is a blowhard who tows the party line of bigotry and ignorance. Obama is doing the right thing, and long overdue. Cruz doesn’t know what in the hell he’s talking about. Communication between people is always the preferred option versus isolation. Communism is not Islam. It’s a philosophy and style of governance, and while corruption exists, there are no fundamental provisions within that deny people life and liberty as Islam does.

Not to mention, dumber than a box a rocks.

Go talk to people who live under communism. They don’t have freedom of speech nor liberty. You can forget about getting ahead.

At least here in America if you WANT to work, educate and apply yourself, the American dream is still attainable.

Oh, and Ted Cruz clearly does not tow the “party line”.

Boy, what are you smoking? Your socks?

Here here!
