Mason City sex offender could have his probation revoked in theft case

MASON CITY – A Mason City sex offender was brought to jail on a warrant Wednesday and faces the possibility of having his probation revoked in a theft case.

Mark Monroe Hoffman, age 53, is awaiting a November 14 hearing on a probation violation in connection to a third degree theft charge he pled guilty to last April.  He could face the 351 day jail sentence that was suspended as part of his plea, along with a $625 fine.

Hoffman was set for trial this week on November 4 in connection to second offense violation of the state’s sex offender registry, but he waived his right to a speedy trial and his jury trial was postponed until December 2, 2014.  Hoffman is accused of violating the state’s sex offender registry on September 21 after police went to his house and he ran from deputies. An investigation showed that a woman, Jaime Lynn Peterson, age 32, was at Hoffman’s house with her children that day.  She was arrested along with Hoffman and charged with two counts of child endangerment for leaving her three-year-old son and five-year-old son alone in the garage with Hoffman.
