CHARLES CITY – Law enforcement in the Charles City area mustered all its strength this weekend to deal with a potentially lethal situation at an apartment complex.
The trouble began on the afternoon of Sunday, August 10, with a disturbance. Charles City police were called to the 600 block of 11th Street at about 3:39 PM. Officers arrived and separated a group of people that were at an apartment complex at that location who sources say were arguing loudly and making threats.
A short time later, the stakes were raised when police were called back to the same location, this time for a disturbance with multiple people involved and unknown weapons. Floyd county deputies were called in to assist. Two men were arrested, Josha Baker, age 31, and Charles Chapman, age 24, both calling Charles City home. The two men were charged with disorderly conduct for fighting in a public place.
Things only got worse from there, when police received multiple emergency calls at about 5:09 PM for another fight, and this time the perpetrators had guns. On-duty police officers were joined by off-duty officers and multiple Floyd county deputies who all converged on the scene. This time, Benoise Slaughter, age 20, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
All three men were soon released from jail pending court dates.

Sure, turn them loose so they can do it again.
Ship these lowlifes back to where they came from, and I don’t mean CC. They’ll soon be here in MC contributing to the problems we have here.
@Allen-they are already here.
I am absolutely sick about the fact that we now have to face this type of urban crime in our rural areas. God help us!!
