MASON CITY – One firefighter was said to be sent to the hospital as firefighters dealt with a fire at a Mason City apartment house Saturday.
Around 6:15, Mason City firefighters and police were dispatched to 417 2nd Street NW for smoke seen coming from the apartment complex building at that location.
A police officer at the scene commented, saying, “They are trying to find the source of the smoke.” The smoke was coming from around the whole building in the attic area.
It was said that there were some cats in the building, but NIT was told that the cats were out and two were seen being held by persons at the scene.
The firefighters took a chainsaw to cut into the SE corner of roof, so they could get to the source.
At least one firefighter was taken to the hospital as well, for unknown causes, but it was said exhaustion was the cause.
The owner of the property, Travis J. Bailey, is currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on parole revocations.
