MC apartments evacuated Thursday

MASON CITY – A Mason City apartment complex was evacuated early Thursday afternoon as flooding worsens.

Management at the Autumn Park Apartments, located at 710 S. Pierce Avenue, announced that the residents would need to evacuate due to flooding.

Debbie Floyd, a resident on the second floor of Autumn Park Apartments, said, “I live on the second floor, but because of the policy, even if bottom floor has to go, we have to go too. The last time first floor got flooded, they had to remodel the whole thing.”

More people were coming out of the apartments with their belongings, waiting for someone to pick them up. Floyd guessed that about sixty-eight people lived at Autumn Park Apartments. “I called my sister, she was at work. I said, “Come and get me, Please! The place is flooded. It’s an emergency”.

“Managers said they would call when it was okay to come back. Maybe two to three days,” said Floyd.
