USA Basketball plans move to massive new Arizona facility

TEMPE, Ariz., June 11 (UPI) — USA Basketball will move its headquarters to Arizona as part of a multimillion-dollar development adjacent to Arizona State University, officials said.

Currently based in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball will move to Tempe, though the precise timetable remains unclear, USA Today said Tuesday. Jerry Colangelo, head of USA Basketball and the former chief executive officer of the Phoenix Suns, said a private developer will build a $53.8 million training campus and four-star, 300-bed hotel and conference center on land currently owned by Arizona State. A lease deal for 65 to 99 years will be signed.

The conference center and hotel would be built no later than 2015.

USA Basketball is responsible for selecting and funding both American youth, men’s and women’s international teams including the nation’s Olympic squads.
