Inmate sends fellow inmate to hospital

According to a Cerro Gordo County Jail incident report an inmate was assaulted by a fellow inmate at 5:31pm Sunday evening.

As a result one inmate was transported to Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa’s emergency room department for treatment of minor injuries.

The other inmate 28-year-old Monte Ray Bitker of Mason City was moved to a maximum security cell and has been charged with one count of serious misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury.

Monte Bitker has been in jail since April 18th when he was captured after being on the run from local law enforcement on felony warrants. Bitker currently has a plea change hearing set for June 11th in relation to three Class “D”counts of forgery. (See that story here)

While Bitker was on pretrial release under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the forgery case Mason City police charged him with a Class “D” felony count of 2nd degree possession of stolen property. Bitker has pled not guilty to the charge and a trial date has been set for July 17th, 2012.

In addition to Bitker’s legal troubles in Cerro Gordo County, Blackhawk County has placed a hold on him in relation to an aggravated misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent after he failed to appear to court proceedings in that case.

Send him to the Fort!!!

Peter, from what University did you get your doctorate?

What was your thesis dealing with?

Did you intern at a prison studying psychiatric interpretations of social deviance?

What is your field of expertise?

Pete is absolutely right on this one. There is a huge problem with the jail/prison system in this country. You don’t need to make it a nice place to live, it is supposed to be a punishment, but it also should still be safe. It’s called cruel and unusual punishment, it’s in the constitution. Confinement should serve it’s purpose, 1 to get a criminal off the street and remove the threat from society, but 2 when we do release them I would hope we would all want someone who is reabilitated. That doesn’t happen when we put nonviolent offenders in with violent or more serious criminals. You all are saying this guy is getting what he deserves well what about the guy he beat up?

So you mean to tell me that a man is arrested and thrown in prison for sexually abusing a child and he gets raped by another man you think that’s cruel and unusual punishment? I think it fits the crime and I think people who stand up for criminals are just as despicable as them. No matter what the jails rules are there is a bigger system perhaps you need to watch the history channel a little more. In my case I had a step brother who was in Nebraska state pen for 17 years of his life. He told me flat out that no matter what the jail tries to enforce if an inmate wants another one hurt or dead it will happen. There is a food chain persay and baby rapers are on the bottom of that list and are targeted as well as they should be. I have no tolerance and no sympathy for those kinds of people.

to “anonymous” abviously you didn’t read my entire post about not putting violent offenders in with nonviolent ones. Also, if you beleive certain crimes deserve a tougher punishment than jail, perhaps you should be pushing for the death penalty. To put different levels of criminals behind bars together and say their safety is not your obligation is ridiculous. Oh, and as far as watching the history channel more often, I prefer to watch less tv and experience real life.

Excellent point Mike. Cruel and Unusual Punishment is exactly what modern prisons are today. I was busy with many things this past week and glad to have made it back to the conversation…one that needs to be continued for sure.

Someone needs to wipe the smile off this loser’s face!

Lucky they didn’t put “Behind Blue Eyes” in with the pit bulls…..or COCKS. Ha!

This local riff raff is right where he belongs!

how are you to walk away in jail your locked in a cell with someone its hard to hear or believe but jails and prisons have there own set of rules and if this guy had to fight he had to fight

I think the pit bulls should play together, after all they are all in their for a reason. If you don’t like it Peter you should fork out the money for them to redesign it so they can each have their own rooms. I’m not about to pay for it.

Are you kidding me Peter? Jails/Prisons/DOC’s fault because this guy has no self control and can’t walk away. A person in jail is not there to have to deal with other inmates are you serious? We as FREE LAW ABIDING citizens have to deal with these STUPID ^&*%$ On the outside, but by golly when they are locked up they should have it easy and not have to encounter people who annoy the hell outta them or look at them the wrong way.

He’s a grown man HE needs to learn how to ACT like one!! It’s not anyone but his own fault!!

This is just Peter writting his fluff…he wants to create a reaction. He needs the attention. He didn’t get enough at Monroe.

He’s in Jail for a reason, it’s not supposed to be a pleasant experience. Follow the laws of this country and you won’t be in that position in the first place. But, Peter doesn’t agree with any of these laws, he just complains about them and how great he would be at changing them in his utopian society of free land.

“It doesn’t matter Bob, I mean “RWB”. Suppose you had a first offense OWI because you had one too many drinks and you were sentenced to 3 days in jail or 2 days”

We playing the What If game now? If your choices in life make you unhappy with potential outcomes; then re-think what you do.

“You cannot group all criminals together, as all crimes are not similar. Many people including the mayor of Mason City Roger Bang have been arrested for DUI. Should they be put in harm’s way while they are being punished?”

Are you suggesting that the Mayor should get special treatment becasue of whom he is/was? BS, he made the wrong choice, so suffer the outcome. I don’t agree with prisoners assaulting other prisoners; don’t put yourself in that postion and you won’t have to worry about it. Jail/Prison is not supposed to be a pleasant place. Fights are always going to happen, because someone will always want to be BMOC. There are folks injured almost every weekend at bars, sporting events, concerts, etc.

really this dude is like a mean old fighting dog can not be trusted to play nice with others i have personally known him for years and this never changes

Turn him loose? Are you serious?!?! Im pretty sure the guy knew what he was doing. Youre the misguided one. Get a clue!

Bitker currently has a plea change hearing set for June 11th in relation to three Class “D”counts of forgery……I smell plea bargain complements DA’s Office. We wouldn’t want to take it to trial where the tapes from the stores could be used to easily prove the charges law enforcement brought on. Instead it is easier for the DA to play LET’S MAKE A DEAL.

While Bitker was on pretrial release under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the forgery case Mason City police charged him with a Class “D” felony count of 2nd degree possession of stolen property………NICE SUPERVISION DOC.

Judges-Turn him loose. He is just misguided.
