According to a Cerro Gordo County Jail incident report an inmate was assaulted by a fellow inmate at 5:31pm Sunday evening.
As a result one inmate was transported to Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa’s emergency room department for treatment of minor injuries.
The other inmate 28-year-old Monte Ray Bitker of Mason City was moved to a maximum security cell and has been charged with one count of serious misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury.
Monte Bitker has been in jail since April 18th when he was captured after being on the run from local law enforcement on felony warrants. Bitker currently has a plea change hearing set for June 11th in relation to three Class “D”counts of forgery. (See that story here)
While Bitker was on pretrial release under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the forgery case Mason City police charged him with a Class “D” felony count of 2nd degree possession of stolen property. Bitker has pled not guilty to the charge and a trial date has been set for July 17th, 2012.
In addition to Bitker’s legal troubles in Cerro Gordo County, Blackhawk County has placed a hold on him in relation to an aggravated misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent after he failed to appear to court proceedings in that case.
