MASON CITY – At tonight’s meeting, the City Council will decide whether to buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for $1.
This is a program done on a regular basis.
According to a City Hall memo, there is a motorcycle available at the local dealership at this time. It would be in use for much of the summer before it would be sold back to the dealer at the end of the season for $1.
The Mason City Police Department owns the red/blue lights, a siren, PA system and storage compartments and the dealership will install the equipment at no cost.
A call to the Mason City Harley Davidson store confirms that the motorcycle is a brand new Harley-Davidson Road King FLHP and they typically cost about $18,000 new. They said the motorcycle doesn’t come in until April.
Reciprocation… You have got to be kidding….
I meant perhaps to say the Cerro Gordo county Judges. True that the MC police do arrest the little miscreants, but the judges always set them free after a few rounds of motions.
I used to own a Harley and when talking about pipes to one of their mechanics I mentioned that it says in the Harley owners manual it is against the law to modify the exhaust he said not to worry about it because the MC police dont enforce it. Straight from the horses mouth.
This is to be expected. Reciprocation has already been going on between the Mason City Police Department and Ron Minert. His offspring and adopted children have been getting in trouble with the law for decades now, and have evaded punishment, while other people have been sent up the river. Attempted murder-dropped. Drug possession-dropped. Assault on Police Officers-dropped. Police car chases-dropped. DUI’s, multiple of them-dropped. If someone really wants to uncover this story deeper, it will take out-of-area authorities to get down to the bottom of this sweetheart deal Minert has going with the city. Perhaps even Federal Prosecutors. Then again, when he’s been so successful as he has, it may be impossible to bring him to justice. You may just have to live with the pseudo-godfather named Ron Minert in town. Good point about those noise ordinances not being enforced…that’s the first thing that should be checked when the city takes possession of the beast, whenever they do.
Yes only guys with small weiners drive harleys, everyone knows that.
The louder the pipes, the smaller the weiner.
This has nothing to do with the local HD dealer. This is a national program with Harley Davidson. We would be stupid not to do it. You can patrol on a Harley much cheaper than a Police car. Go on to the next story, there is nothing to bitch about here!!

This is really no big deal and they have done this in the past. Basically, HD lets the city use the bike for the summer. NO BIG DEAL.
It isn’t a big deal. It is 100,000 little deals all put together.

Like I said HD and the city has done this in the past. I agree that HD shouldn’t have been given the $100,000 (blackmail money?) BUT we really have to blame our city council that went along with it and all voted for it.
So THAT’S why SOME harley riders get away with violating the noise ordinance every sunny day of summer. I was wondering why the police force didn’t uphold that law.
If they are within legal limits, where is the issue? Enough said!
Well, I guess it seems like a pretty dang good deal to me, then. So what is there to consider? I’d take any vehicle for a dollar!
Loud pipes don’t save lives. Loud pipes save egos. You should read the noise ordinance before defending people who DISTURB THE PEACE.
Show me one life saved by loud pipes. You don’t hear the pipes until after the bike goes by. How does that save anyone?
seeing the good people of mason city were FORCED byt he goodwill of the so called city who are doing thing in ours best interest gave Harley Davidson a $100,000 gift (they called it a loan)the city should get 5 or 6 for free.
but then again i suppose the owners of Harley Davidson needs that money to bail out and for lawyer fees to keep their grandkids of of jail when they drive drunk.
It is a nation wide program. Not just the local Harley kissing ass.
Ya know they do this for any emergency outfit? If the fire dept wanted one they could do the same. Plus if you didnt read it it says that they buy it back for yhe same dollar so basically they give em a bike to ride for free
This is a program that Harley does all over the US. It helps keep costs down for the government. Thank you Harley-Davidson for doing your part.
You can buy anything online now a days… Do some research. I bet you dont get yours for a dollar… big rooster or not!
How dare they consider such expenditures! I am sure Beermier and Turncoat have their fat feet and swollen egos in this! Conspiracy theory I say, there is a conspiracy theory here! That dollar should go to better use! PC, get out your slueth hat and magnifying glass! Tell us how wrong this is! How will we ever make it! Millions upon millions for a hotel, library, and downtown area. Now someone wants a $ from us? Get in line!
