WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Mason City Fire Department has been awarded $548,145 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program (AFG). AFG is a program that improves the capability of firefighters to respond to fires and emergencies of all types to improve their connections to hospitals and emergency care. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which funds Homeland Security.
“Improvements that help our first responders and allow them to do their job, ensuring the health and safety of our communities is of the utmost importance,” said Harkin. “This grant will improve safety measures in Mason City. I congratulate the fire department on this important award.”
