MASON CITY – City Council member Don Nelson is asking for an investigation of fellow Council member Scott Tornquist. The request stems from what Nelson calls a “possible conflict of interest” in the fact that Tornquist represented companies that provided materials for the recently completed Mason City library project and then, as City Council member, voted on the expenditures.

Nelson asked for the investigation in a letter to City Attorney Tom Meyer.

The issue gets more complicated from there, as Nelson also feels there could be a conflict with Meyer investigating “one of your bosses.” Nelson told Meyer in the letter “you may want to refer me to the Attorney General’s Office in Iowa.”

Nelson then goes on to say “Regardless of your response Tom, I am pursuing the issue of conflict of interest with the Attorney General’s Office in Des Moines.”

Nelson’s letter to Meyer finishes up by asking Meyer “could you provide me with what the library purchased from Scott Tornquist and the amount?”

Tornquist told NorthIowaToday.com that he had no comment on the situation.
