George Mack, age 99, of Algona, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday November 21st at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Visitation will be 9:30 am until service time Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 11 am Saturday November 22nd at Crown Hill Cemetery in Jolley with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard and the Palmer American Legion.
George August Earnest Mack, the son of George Martin and Mildred (Ruth) Mack, was born on May 25, 1926 in Jolley, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church and attended St. Paul’s Parochial School in Knoke, Iowa. George served his country and obtained the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. On August 8, 1969 George was united in marriage with Ethel Nagel in Sac City. George and Ethel were married for 33 years. On October 27, 2018 George was united in marriage with Julie Anderson in Sac City.
George was born, raised and lived on the family farm for 95 years. George was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League for 49 years holding offices of President and Regional Governor. For 15 years George was a Calhoun County Community Committeeman. He also served on the Butler Township Fire Dept. for 64 years, Butler Township Trustee for many years, and the Co-op Elevator board for 9 years. George was a pilot for 64 years and flew on Angel Flights to MO, OK, KS, SD, MN and IA. He was a world traveler and visited at least 67 countries. George sky dived at 90, was the flagman at Karl King concerts and enjoyed being a part of the TLC Quilters.
Left to cherish George’s memory is his wife Julie; step children, Sue (Terry) Herzberg, Cathy Koncilia, Annette Stone, Tony (Lanette) Stone, Michelle Stone and Kathy Frideres; 9 step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren and niece, Helen (John) August. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; siblings, Ruth, Mark, Daniel, Esther, Grace, Mildred and Eunice; step children, Donald Nagel and Patty Sorensen; step grandson, Mathew Herzberg; and step son-in-law, Michael Koncilia.
Memorials may be made in George’s name and directed to Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Pl, St. Louis, MO 63105 to support seminary students. The Lentz Funeral Home in Algona is serving the family.
