Altered prescription used at Wal-Mart leads to arrest

On December 22, 2010 Mason City Police responded to a possible altering of a written prescription at Wal-Mart in Mason City. An investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Donna Marianne Bowers, 46, from Rockwell. Bowers was arrested and charged with four counts of prohibited acts and one count of possession of a controlled substance. Bowers was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where she posted bond for the charges. Bowers used altered prescriptions to get over 12,000 oxycodone and oxycontin pills from the Wal-Mart pharmacy in a six month period. A search warrant was executed by police at Bowers’ residence following her arrest.

Prohibited acts and possession of a controlled substance are both serious misdemeanors and punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of $315.00 to $1875.00. The North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office assisted the Mason City Police Department in the investigation.
