Dixie A. Stromley, 96 of Mason City and formerly of Manly, passed away peacefully Monday, June 30, 2025 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, July 7, 2025 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 S East St, Manly, IA 50456 with Rev. Cory Allard officiating. She will be laid to rest at Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, IA.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm – 5:00pm Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Dixie Ann Cottrell was born May 18, 1929 in Mason City, the daughter of George F. and Mable (Ure) Cottrell. At the age of three, her mother died from tuberculosis, and in 1935 became the daughter of Carl and Gunhild (Haugen) Kalgaarden of Kensett. She grew up on their farm near Kensett, was confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, attended country school and graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1947. Over the years she worked at Sears, Mercy Hospital, and after retirement found her niche, caring for children as a bus aide for Head Start. Dixie was blessed with six children, Donavon, Galen, Neil, Valerie, Randy and Wendy.
Dixie had a loving heart and a playful spirit. She was a jokester through and through—always ready with a quick wit or a light-hearted prank to make others smile. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she never missed an opportunity to dress up and join in the fun. She had a deep love for flowers, tending to her gardens with care and delight. In her later years, Dixie remained as spirited as ever, eagerly participating in activities at Kentucky Ridge and Good Shepherd, and never passed up a game of BINGO. Dixie was proud of her Norwegian heritage, loved a sweet treat, and never passed up a goodie. But above all, Dixie treasured her family. Whether gathered for a holiday or just an ordinary day, she lit up when surrounded by those she loved most.
She is survived by her son, Donavon (Diana Anderson) Reinsmoen of Lakeville, MN, and his children, Martin (Marie Rausch) Reinsmoen and their children, Linnea and Sofia Reinsmoen, Katherine (Justin) Dettmann and their children, Alden, Finn, and Kaia Dettmann, and Kristiana (Tiffany) Reinsmoen-Tollers; her son, Galen (Patricia Klebe) Reinsmoen of Corralville, IA, and his son, Robert (Courtney Niehaus) Reinsmoen and their children, Ethan, Alli and Avery Reinsmoen; her son, Neil (Karin Dohnert) Reinsmoen of Beavercreek, OH, and his children, Matthew (Victoria Montfort) Reinsmoen and his child, Parker Reinsmoen, Nicolle (Clay) Martin and their children, Elijah and Elin Martin, and Jessica Reinsmoen; her daughter, Valerie (Mike) Grandgenett of Carroll, IA, and her children, Brandon (Jennifer Ehlers) Grandgenett and their children, Lena, Lucah and Lexa Grandgenett, and Andrea (Joe) Gach and their children, Jayden, Paxton, and Bentyn Gach; her son, Randy (Angela Christianson) Stromley of Mason City, IA, and his children, Heather (Jubal) Brosseau and their child, Amara Brosseau, Dillon Stromley and his children, Alanah and Ryder Stromley, and Dustin (Sara Berding) Stromley; and her daughter, Wendy (Tom) Henaman of Plymouth, IA and her children, Nick Dahl, Jake (Danielle Hrubetz) Dahl and their children, Ryker and Delaney Dahl, and Luke Dahl and his child, Emory Dahl, her bonus son, Tyler (Casey) Henaman and their children, Cole and Blair Henaman and bonus grandchildren Stevie Henaman and Jameson Reindl; Dixie’s sister-in-law, Zell Cottrell, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her special friend, Willis Brennan of Manly; her adoptive parents, Carl and Gunhild Kalgaarden; her birth parents, George Floyd and Mable (Ure) Cottrell; brothers Weston “Bill” Cottrell and Mick Hammond; and sisters, Lenys (Gale) Bartell, Elaine (Albert) Wallskog, Cleo (Chester) Bruce, and Frances (Merrill) Hove.
