On November 12, 2024, at 1:56 PM, the Mason City Fire Department responded to an apartment fire
at 2711 4th St SE. Fire crews arrived to find a fire in one apartment, which they quickly extinguished.

The tenant reported the fire after returning from errands. No one was inside at the time, and there were no injuries. The fire did not extend to adjacent apartments. The Mason City Fire Department remained on scene until 4:11 PM.

Residents of the building were displaced for the night due to power being shut off. The Salvation Army and family members assisted the residents.
