Raymond A. Chavez, 65, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away July 16, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 25, 2024 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 120 1st St NE, Mason City, IA 50401 with Rev. Stephen Benitz officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Raymond was born September 23, 1958 in Mason City, Iowa, son of Timio and Serafine (Barragan) Chavez. He attended Mason City Schools and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following his time in the service, he worked on the railroad as well as Armour and Kraft.
Raymond spent many hours building and driving stock cars. He was also an avid bowler and played in a number of tournaments throughout the years. As his children grew up, he also enjoyed playing card games with them.
Those left to honor his memory are his daughter, Mikayla (Taylor) Chavez-Wilson, Mason City; grandsons, Asher and Sage; brother, Andrew (Kathy) Chavez, Mason City; sister, Phyllis (Duane Dillavou) Maskarina, Mason City; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly in 1995; son, Adam Chavez in 2006; and parents, Timio and Serafine.
