WEST UNION – An elderly Northern Iowa man was killed when his riding lawnmower tipped over, authorities say.
On October 5, 2025, at approximately 3:17 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a lawn mower accident on Juniper Road near the intersection of 290th Street. Upon arrival, deputies learned that 84-year-old Jacob Doren Bricker of West Union was mowing a ditch when he lost control of his John Deere zero turn mower and went off an embankment.
As a result of the accident, Jacob Doren “JD” Bricker was later pronounced deceased.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, Ossian Fire Department, Gundersen Tri-State ambulance, Gundersen Air and Lacrosse County Medical Examiner.
The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
