Two people found dead in West Des Moines home; police say murder-suicide

WEST DES MOINES – Two people were found dead in a West Des Moines home and police are calling it a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday, January 19th, at 10:07am, Officers with the West Des Moines Police Department were dispatched to 1390 S. 100th Street to conduct a welfare check at the residence. After arriving on scene and gathering preliminary information, officers made entry into the residence and discovered a deceased adult male and female.

West Des Moines Police Detectives immediately initiated an investigation with the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and West Des Moines Crime Scene Technicians. The deceased have been identified as Dana Fortugno, 52 and Justine Fortugno, 59 both of West Des Moines. Through the course of a detailed investigation, detectives have determined this unfortunate incident to be a murder-suicide that took place inside the residence.

The West Des Moines Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), West Des Moines Fire/EMS, and the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
