Four hurt in accident near Mason City

RURAL MASON CITY – Four people were hurt in an accident near Mason City Saturday.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office says that on May 15, 2021 at about 11:17 AM, the they responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of 300th Street and Orchid Avenue just north of Mason City.

Aleigha Bakkum, age 21 of Mason City was southbound on Highway 65 approaching 300th Street in a 2014 Nissan Versa when Maxine Kruger, age 89 of Grafton, entered the intersection in a 2005 Chevy Uplander, causing Bakkum to collide with Kruger.

5 year old Sophia Juarez and 20 year old Angel Herman, both passengers in Bakkums vehicle and both of Mason City, were injured in the accident. All four people were transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa for injuries and all were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Kruger was cited for Failure to obey a stop sign or yield intersection.
The accident remains under investigation.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mason City Fire Department, Mason City Fire Medics, Clear Lake Fire Medics and Iowa State Patrol.

That seem to be a frequent occurance at that intersection/area despite your age .

Didn’t used to be, maybe people need to go back to putting their phones down and driving. There is plenty of room, and visibility so there was No reason. Makes me wonder what Aleigha Bakkum was up to behind the wheel.

Aleigha was not cited . I wonder what you were up to ?

Why would I be cited? And I was driving the speed limit and watching the road as I had my daughter in the car! She ran the stop sign and hit the front/middle of my car that caused us all to lose consciousness and my friend and daughter to stop breathing and need medical attention! So no u fucking Karen I didn’t get a citation I got $44,000$ from her insurance

Possibly time to give up driving, at least no one was killed.
