Delbert Dean Harms, 90, of Allison, Iowa, passed away April 3, 2026, at the Allison Rehabilitation Center.
A public visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00p.m. on April 8, at Woodley Funeral Home in Allison. Private family services and interment will be held at Allison Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Cedar Valley Hospice. Woodley Funeral Home of Allison is caring for Delbert and his family.
He was born on August 17, 1935, in Dumont, Iowa, to Harry and Susie (Ubben) Harms. Delbert attended country school in Bear Grove. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Mae Arjes on April 6, 1956, at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Delbert and Marge resided in rural Allison where they raised their family. Delbert farmed and had dairy cattle. The farm became a special place for the grandkids. Camping, playing in the creek, pasture picnics, and hayrides with their team of Belgian horses were some favorite memories. He loved to make his famous fried chicken in his cast iron pot. Delbert was humble and hardworking. He loved music – anything could have a good tune, but it was “all about the lyrics.” He was loved by many and never met a stranger.
He is survived by one daughter Susan (Mark) Schrage of Bristow; two sons Steven (Brenda) Harms of Aplington and Jeffrey (Julie) Harms of Allison; ten grandchildren Sarah (Jason) Gersema, Justin (Becky) Schrage, Ashley (Zach) Malecek, Nikki (Justin) Shook, Kyle (Jillian) Harms, Lucas Harms, Hunter and Dylan Coleman, James (Chelsea) Harms, and Haley (Mike) Shorter; twelve great grandchildren Mya, McKenna, and Marlowe Gersema, Gavin and Griffin Schrage, Emersyn and Grayson Buck, Andi and Dani Shook, Josey Harms, Kendrick and Ava Shorter; one sister Karen Dralle; sister in laws Lorna Harms and Jean Arjes; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Delbert is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Harms, his son Stan Harms, his parents Harry and Susie Harms, and his two brothers Roger and Wayne Harms.
